Coffee Cup - 3ds Max Modeling Tutorial

Wednesday, September 29, 2010
Hello my friends, in this tutorial i will show you how to model a coffee cup using 3D Studio Max.
For the Coffee Cup modeling tutorial follow this link Coffee Plate - Modeling Tutorial

Step 1: To create the cup's body we need to draw a line using the line tool. Just select the line tool and left click on the screen until you get something like in the bellow image, right click to end the line.

Step 2: Now select the middle vertices, right click and transform them to bezier, move the vertices and handles until you have something like in the image bellow.
Hint: if the handle are stuck in one direction, press F8 to unlock them.

Step 3: Select the top 2 vertices and apply Fillet(scroll down to Geometry section) amount until you have a nice, smooth edge.

Step 4: With the line selected apply a Lathe modifier from the Modifier List, don't worry about the outcome, we'll fix that in the next step.

Step 5: With the Lathe modifier selected check the "Weld Core" box set the Segments to 48 and click on Min under the Align section.

Step 6: In the Front View create a new line like we did in step 1. Move and transform the vertices like in the image bellow. Red for Smooth and blue for bezier.

Step 7:  Now for the final step check the boxes for "Enable in Render" and "Enable in Viewport" under the Rendering section. Change the thickness to your desired amount(in my case is 30 cm) and change the sides number to 12 or more for higher resolution.

Thanks for reading this tutorial.
